Dental Braces – What is it?

Dental braces (otherwise known as also braces, orthodontic cases, or cases) are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help position them with regard to a person’s bite. Dental braces also aim to improve dental health and fix gaps. They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, open bites, deep bites, cross bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw. Braces can be either cosmetic or structural. Dental braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws and to otherwise assist in shaping the teeth and jaws.

Advantages of Getting Braces

Aside from getting straighter teeth, you could also enjoy the following benefits from treatment with oral braces:

+ Improved Speech – Misaligned teeth can prevent you from speaking clearly. Braces help fix this issue to allow you to pronounce words properly.

+ Lowered Risk of Tooth Decay – Teeth overcrowding or overlapping makes brushing and flossing difficult. There are spots that are hard to reach with dental floss and a toothbrush, because of the condition. Braces correct these orthodontic problems and make teeth cleaning easy and effective.

+ Improved Self-Confidence – Having properly aligned teeth allows you to show off your smile to people without any worries.

Dental braces in Kuala Lumpur effectively corrects complex cases of malocclusion such as open bites, crossbites, overbite, underbite, crowding, severe deep bites, and even close gaps between teeth.

Improved Speech & Pronunciation

Misaligned teeth can negatively impact the way a person speaks as teeth play a crucial role in the distinct and proper pronunciation of words.

Braces help to adjust the position of teeth, allowing for clearer and more concise speech. Additionally, the realigning of teeth and jaw allows more space for the tongue to move, which reduces slurring when speaking.

Types of Dental Braces in Kuala Lumpur

At KL Dental Implant Clinic, we offer a wide selection of dental braces – Depending on your needs & requirements, our trained dentists will recommend the best type to meet your needs and effectively treat your condition.

Conventional Metal Braces

Conventional Metal Braces

Metal braces are most popular among children and adolescent patients. They work by applying the braces to the teeth and connecting them with a wire. The wire is tied to the braces using elastic ties, which come in an array colors to choose from. To move the teeth, the orthodontist makes adjustments to the wire at your appointments every 4-8 weeks.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are braces made of clear, tooth colored material. They work in the same way as metal braces, but are more discreet and less visible. Ceramic braces are most popular among patients who do not think Invisalign or lingual braces are right for them, but who still want to straighten their teeth in a discreet and affordable way. These patients tend to be esthetically-driven adolescents and adults.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign is great for patients who had braces when they were younger and just need a “touch up,” as well as for patients who have mild to moderate dental problems like misaligned teeth, large overbite, no jaw alignment problems, and who have gaps in their front teeth (open bite). But any clear aligner system including Invisalign has significant limitations compared to braces when addressing difficult problems or comprehensive treatments.

Dental Braces Treatment Process

The entire duration of a typical dental braces treatment process typically ranges between 18 – 24 months, depending on the complexity of the case. Here’s a breakdown of the dental braces treatment process from start to finish.

3. Placing the Brackets

After the treatment plan is complete, we’ll schedule you for another appointment. This appointment begins with thorough scaling and polishing and cleaning of your teeth.

After the cleaning, the teeth are prepared for bonding, and then brackets are cemented to the teeth based on positions predetermined in the treatment plan by the dentist.

Once brackets have been securely cemented in place, the archwire is placed into the brackets and held in place by the bracket doors.
